Since getting called up, Guardians second baseman Travis Bazzana has shown flashes of what made him the top overall pick in the 2024 MLB Draft. The initial returns may not jump off the page like Chase Delauter’s start to the season, but Bazzana is showing that he belongs.

That wasn't always the case, as he didn't really get off to a quick start upon being drafted. He occasionally showed his talent during his short stint at Lake County in 2024, but hit under .240 and had an on-base percentage of .369.

That set up 2025, which was an inconsistent and injury plagued year. He ended up playing in 26 games at Triple-A after being promoted, but he hit just .225 (though he did showcase incredible discipline with an on-base percentage of .420).

It seemed like there was an outside shot he could play his way onto the Guardians' Opening Day roster this season, but he started the season in Columbus after a solid showing at spring training.

The start of the season did not go well for Bazzana, which is part of the reason why the Guardians decided to call up Juan Brito when Gabriel Arias went down.

But Bazzana went on a tear after that and Brito struggled to adjust to the bigs, and the Aussie made his MLB debut on April 28 in place of Brito.

At first glance, it seems like Bazzana hasn't done anything that's jumped off the page. He entered play on Tuesday hitting just .211 with one home run and one double.

Those stats would make it seem like it's been a struggle. However, when you take a closer look you start to see a professional hitter who is on the verge of breaking out in a big way.

Travis Bazzana is a weapon of mass production

Despite a lack of results, Bazzana is chasing almost nothing and when he is swinging he is making consistent contact. He's walked 12 times since making his debut and has chase rate of just 23.1%.

The ultimate sign of respect came in his debut when Rays manager decided to intentionally walk Bazzana in the ninth inning of his MLB debut. He's also managed to nab seven bases in just 12 games.

The numbers don't jump off the page, but the peripherals are showing a hitter who is on the verge of finding a new gear. Bazzana entered Tuesday reaching base in 10 of his first 12 games, including all of the last five games.

It's starting to feel like at worst Cleveland has found a quality second baseman for the foreseeable future; hopefully he turns into so much more.
