On Aug. 6, Gavin Williams came two outs away from etching his name into the Cleveland Guardians history books with a no-hitter against the Mets.
While his chance to make history was interrupted by Juan Soto, it helped the Guardians pick up a win over the Mets and secure a three-game sweep at Citi Field.
It also marks the last time the Guardians played against an opponent above .500.
The Guardians followed that series up by taking two out of three against the White Sox over the weekend followed by a 4-3 win over the Marlins on Monday — two teams that are under .500.

In fact, the Guardians aren’t going to play against a team over .500 until they head to Texas in 10 days to take on the Rangers.
Although the Guardians may not be facing off against the toughest competition that MLB has to offer, they’re taking care of business, which is all you can ask for.
The Guardians are making the most of their weak schedule
At this point, playing against opponents under .500 is nothing new to the Guardians, as they opened the second half by playing 16 straight games against opponents with records under .500. That said, it came in a span that included Emmanuel Clase getting suspended and the trade deadline, so it wasn’t everything was normal.
They’re back at it again and currently in a span of 12 straight games against opponents with losing records. After they finish up against the Marlins, they’ll welcome the Braves to Progressive Field before heading out to Arizona to take on the Diamondbacks.
None of those teams are your average bottom-feeder, however. The Marlins reached .500 at the beginning of the month after sweeping the Yankees, but have fallen back to earth since. The Guardians are catching them at the right time.
While Atlanta’s 51-68 record is bad, they still have the bones of a team that made it to the postseason seven seasons in a row. They could also get Ronald Acuña Jr. and Austin Riley back from the injured list ahead of their series with the Guardians as well.

The Braves may have to throw Erick Fedde and old friend Carlos Carrasco out there to start games, but they have a legit offense.
The Diamondbacks are in a bit of the same boat. They’re only two years removed from a World Series run, but haven’t been able to do much this year thanks to a variety of injuries and regression. Their offense is worse now that they’ve traded away Josh Naylor and Eugenio Suárez, but they still have a variety of impact players on their roster.
It’s also worth pointing out the Guardians went 6-0 across their series with the Astros and Mets over the past month. It’s hard to believe those are the only two series they’ve played against teams above .500 in that span, but they’ve handled their business.
The win over the Astros was even more impressive considering it came right after they suffered an embarrassing loss to the Tigers that pushed their losing streak to 10 games.
At the time, it looked like the Guardians were staring down the barrel of a lost season. But instead, they rallied together and have put together a comeback that, while not finished, is still incredibly impressive. They’ll have their work cut out for them over the next couple weeks if they want to keep things going.
