Corey Kluber, who won two Cy Young Awards as a member of the Cleveland Indians, has reportedly signed on to join the New York Yankees.

Any hopes of a reunion between the Cleveland Indians and right-hander Corey Kluber this offseason came to a halt Friday evening as the former Indian ace agreed to a one-year $11 million deal with the New York Yankees, per multiple reports.

In parts of nine seasons with the Indians, Kluber was named an All-Star three-times, won the AL Cy Young Award twice (2014 & 2017), led the AL in wins twice (2014 & 2017), won 20 games in 2018 and posted the best ERA in the AL in 2017.

On May 1 of 2019 fractured his right arm after being hit by a line against the Miami Marlins. The freak injury would be the beginning of the end of his time in Cleveland, as after he suffered abdominal tightness while rehabbing in the minors, his season came to an end.

In December of 2019, the Indians traded Kluber to the Texas Rangers in exchange for Delino DeShields Jr. and Emmanuel Clase. Kluber’s 2020 season with Texas did not go as planned as he pitched just one inning for the Rangers before seeing his season end due to a torn teres major muscle.

Now healthy, Kluber heads to the Bronx, where he will reunite with former Indians’ assistant director of pitching development Matt Blake and his long-time strength and conditioning coach Eric Cressey who is now the Director of Player Health Performance for the Yankees.

More from Away Back Gone

The Indians are scheduled to match up with Kluber and the Yankees for a four-game set in Cleveland in April and for a game series in the Bronx in August.
