While the 0-16 parade takes place today, Cleveland Indians fans may have memories of the non-championship parade that took place in 1995.

Today is an interesting day in the city of Cleveland.

While the weather is miserable enough to make most stay inside, a contingent of fans will be downtown this afternoon taking part in the parade to celebrate/protest the 0-16 season had by the Cleveland Browns.

This is a divisive issue in the city, and some may hate the idea of any parade that doesn’t celebrate a championship, but this isn’t the first.

The 1995 Cleveland Indians fell to the Atlanta Braves in the World Series, but returned home and had a parade in downtown Cleveland. It didn’t have the attendance that it would’ve had if the team had won the Series, but it still drew a nice crowd.

Naturally, this memory led to a Twitter poll.

The 1995 parade obviously came after a better season than the Browns season fans are having a parade for today, and the Indians parade was also about celebrating a team that was finally elite again after decades of bad baseball.

More from Away Back Gone

In hindsight, having a parade for a team that didn’t win a title is a bit different, but it is better than having one after a winless season.

The circumstances are also different as fans are putting on today’s parade while the Indians decided to do the one in 1995.

The hope back in 1995 was that the small parade would turn into giant championship parades in the latter half of the decade. Unfortunately, we are all still waiting on those.

So what do you think?

Was the Indians parade better because it was celebrating a team that won the American League, or is today’s 0-16 parade better because it seeks to send a message to ownership and was organized by fans?
