The Cleveland Indians are still fighting for both the top overall seed in the American League and all of baseball with two games remaining.

The Cleveland Indians have 101 wins in 2017, but getting to 102 or even 103 would lead to some nice perks in the postseason.

The Indians enter play today needing to win one of their final two games to clinch the top spot in the American League. That, or the Houston Astros need to drop one game in Boston.

The Astros are playing at 1 p.m., so it’s possible the Indians begin tonight’s game atop the AL for good. Another feat for a sellout crowd to celebrate would be a nice way to wrap up the season.

More from Away Back Gone

When it comes to the best record in baseball, the Indians are still alive in that hunt as well. They need to win both of their final two games, while the Los Angeles Dodgers would need to lose their two upcoming games against the Colorado Rockies. The Dodgers did lose Friday night, so there is still hope.

I’ll make the not-so-bold prediction of saying the Indians end up atop the AL after Sunday. As for overtaking the Dodgers, I won’t even try to predict that given the uncertainty of the past month. I guess my best advice is to put on a Rockies hat and do some scoreboard watching this weekend.

Even if the Indians can’t overtake the Dodgers, that would only matter in the event of an Indians-Dodgers World Series. So if any of the other three NL teams make it, the Indians would open at home.

I’m getting ahead of myself with this talk of potential World Series matchups, but it is worth noting.

The Chicago White Sox are waiting for their miserable season to end and didn’t put up much of a fight on Friday. Expect the same this weekend as the Indians can take advantage of the easy series to end the regular season.
