The Triple-A All-Star game will pit the host International League All-Stars against the Pacific Coast League All-Stars in Charlotte, North Carolina. The Tribe’s Triple-A affiliate the Columbus Clippers will be well represented on the International League squad as a trio of Tribe prospects were named to the team as pitchers Mike Clevinger and Shawn Armstrong will be joined by infielder Erik Gonzalez will represent the Clippers.
Clevinger made his big league debut this season and was a top ten prospect heading into the season. He’s had some mixed results at the big league level going 0-1 with a 7.71 ERA in four appearances and three starts. With the Clippers things have been much different as he’s gone 9-0 with a 2.72 ERA in 14 starts. He’s striking out an amazing 9.8 per nine innings and thrown 76 innings for the Tribe’s Triple-A club.
Armstrong has been up and down with the big league clubs since making his debut in 2015. He was the Tribe’s 20th ranked prospect heading into the season and made one appearance with the Indians this season, throwing one inning and allowing a run. The rest of his time has been spent at Triple-A where he’s posted a 2.70 ERA in 32 appearances out of the bullpen. Most impressive is that he’s struck out a whopping 13.2 per nine innings this season. Unfortunately, he’s also walking nearly 6.5 per nine, which is one reason he’s been in Triple-A and not the big leagues.

He’s hit .296 on the season, second behind only Yandy Diaz on the Clippers. he’s also hit six home runs and stolen nine bases. Primarily a shortstop (70 games), he’s also seen time at second base (six), third base (three), center field (two), and right field (one) this season.
The game begins at 7pm EST and can be seen on MLB Network.
