The Cleveland Indians beat the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim Sunday afternoon by a score of 8-3 to take the rubber match of the three-game series. Carlos Santana homered from both sides of the plate in the game as the Indians moved to 35-27 with the win. The Angels dropped to 27-36 with the loss.

Danny Salazar, making his first start in over a week, wasn’t at his best but still managed to hold the Angels scoreless for the first 5 2/3 innings today. The only run he allowed came in the bottom of the 6th on a solo home run by Jefry Marte. Salazar would leave allowing just the one run on three hits. He did walk four but struck out eight in his 5 2/3 innings of work. He moved to 7-3 on the year with the win and lowered his ERA to 2.19 on the season.
Dan Otero worked a scoreless inning of work and Tom Gorzelanny got the final out of the 7th for the Indians. Tommy Hunter worked the 8th inning, allowing an unearned run thanks to a Jose Ramirez error at second base. Zach McAllister finished off the game for the Tribe, allowing a run in the 9th on two hits and a walk.
The Indians offense jumped on Angels’ starter David Huff with a run in the 1st inning thanks to a Francisco Lindor solo home run to make it 1-0 Tribe. The Indians would then knock the former Indian Huff out of the game in the 2nd inning with four runs. Carlos Santana led the inning off with his 11th home run of the year and first batting right-handed to make it 2-0. The Indians then scored three unearned runs thanks to an error by Marte at third base allowed Juan Uribe to reach after a Yan Gomes double. Michael Martinez drove in Gomes on an RBI fielder’s choice groundout and then Lindor broke it open with a two-run double scoring Martinez and Rajai Davis.
Mike Napoli drove in the Tribe’s sixth run on an RBI single in the top of the 7th, driving in Jose Ramirez to make it 6-1 Indians. Carlos Santana stretched the lead to 8-2 in the top of the 9th on his second home run of the game, this time from the left-side of the plate.

The Indians will head to Kansas City to take on the Royals for a three-game set beginning Monday. The Royals are currently in a tie for second place in the American League Central with the Detroit Tigers, three games behind the front-running Indians. Carlos Carrasco (2-1, 3.48 ERA) will take on Edinson Volquez (5-6, 4.25) in the opener tomorrow night at Kaufmann Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 8:15 pm.
