Zach McAllister is still an option for the Cleveland Indians’ starting rotation
Now that the team has added Juan Uribe, Nicholas Blazek wonders if the team truly needed the third baseman. He notes that the Uribe signing creates a murky picture for the young Giovanny Urshela. Urshela, 24, is well-known for his glove, but his offense is quite questionable. This could be similar to Uribe, whose batting performances have worsened in the past few seasons. Despite the potential of the 36-year-old declining even further next year, this move is a good one, argues Blazek, since it offers the Indians a safety net at third base.

On another note, Ryan Dewulf brings up the fact that Bob Feller is the subject of a petition at WhiteHouse.gov. Feller enlisted in the United States Navy right after the attacks on Pearl Harbor. Serving on the USS Alabama, he missed three seasons during his prime to serve his nation. In early February, the Cleveland Indians submitted a petition to award the Presidential Medal of Freedom to Feller. For this to happen, the signature must receive 100,000 signatures. Back to the present, Terry Francona has said not to leave Zach McAllister out of the discussion for the fifth spot in the starting rotation, according to Zack Meisel of Cleveland.com. This does not mean that the right-hander is likely to join the rotation, but it does mean that the option is still there. According to Francona, McAllister would “love a chance to start”, and the team will reassess his situation during camp.
The biggest question for his ability to pitch in the starting rotation is whether or not the secondary pitches are passable. Last year, he had problems getting through the order once he had seen batters a few times. Hopefully, McAllister will show that he has what it takes to be a starter, and Francona will have to make a very difficult decision.
