The Cleveland Indians are encouraging everyone to sign a petition to get Bob Feller the Presidential Medal of Freedom

In yesterday’s post, I paid homage to three Cleveland Indians legends whose bronzed statues will forever be on display at Progressive Field. In that article, I showcased their famed careers and highlighted all the baseball accomplishments they achieved. Now I would like to take the time to talk about one player in particular, and the courage, bravery and loyalty to his country that should never be overlooked.

More from Away Back Gone

Bob Feller‘s baseball career speaks for itself, but this all-star pitcher is a true Patriot.  December 7, 1941, a day which will forever live in our hearts and minds; the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor and World War II followed. Bob Feller was the first major league baseball player to enlist in the U.S Navy. He served on a battleship called the USS Alabama and missed the 1942, 1943 and 1944 seasons. While serving his country he received six campaign ribbons and eight battle stars. He rejoined the Indians for the 1945 season.

"Bob DiBiasio, the Vice President of public affairs for the Cleveland Indians said, “In addition to the incredible and lasting impact Bob made on the Indians organization, we think his meritorious contribution to the security and national interests of the United States makes him worthy of consideration for the Presidential Medal of Freedom”"

On February 3, 2016, the Cleveland Indians filed a petition through www.WhiteHouse.gov to have the Presidential Medal of Freedom awarded to Bob Feller. We need 100,000 signatures within 30 days to have the White House respond and consider Bobs selfless act.
