Dr. Smooth is about to go nationwide. On Sunday afternoon Indians outfielder Michael Brantley was voted by his peers to be a member of the 2014 American League All-Star team.
There is no doubt that the 27-year old deserves to be part of the team posting a slash line of .321/.385/.511 with 13 home runs and 57 runs driven in. His 13 home runs are already a career high and he has drawn 29 walks while only striking out 30 times.
When Indians Reliever Cody Allen was asked who may have voted for Brantley he gave an honest answer:
"“Every pitcher in the league probably doesn’t like facing Brantley,” Allen said, “so I’m sure he got a lot of votes from pitchers.” – Cleveland.com"
Unfortunately teammate Corey Kluber who is 8-6 with a 2.86 ERA and has struck out 137 batters while only walking 30 in his 125.2 innings of work did not make the team but that could change due to schedules, injuries, etc.
Kluber could also be voted in as he is part of the final fan vote along with the Chicago White Sox Chris Sale, Rick Porcello of the Detroit Tigers, Garrett Richards of the Los Angeles Angels, Dallas Keuchel of the Houston Astros.
Indians manager Tito Francona will be part of John Farrells staff said of Kluber:
"“We all think Kluber is an All-Star pitcher this year, But knowing the system and how it works and everything, rather than gripe about it, what we can do as a city is — even though we’re not the biggest city — jump onboard and support Kluber and find a way to get him on that team. I think that would be a phenomenal feat for us as a city to find a way to get him on that team. I think his pitching deserves it.” – cleveland.com"
