Steven Kwan and Andres Gimenez win Gold Gloves
A comfort level exists when a team knows they have an elite defensive player out on the field. That comfort level gets bumped up a notch when there are two who happen to be at important positions on the field. That just so happens to be the case for the Cleveland Guardians.
Outfielder Steven Kwan adds another Gold Glove to his collection, winning the award for the third time in his career for his efforts in left field. Kwan has proven to be an elite left fielder, and having won a Gold Glove in all three major league seasons only reinforces that fact. It takes a special type of player to come onto the scene and immediately start winning Gold Gloves, and Kwan happens to be that type of player.
Second baseman Andres Gimenez was also named as a recipient of a Gold Glove for his performance at second base this past season. Anyone who has watched the Guardians play has noticed Gimenez's play at a premium position in the infield, and it is no wonder that for the third time in his career, he comes away with a Gold Glove. In addition to his three Gold Gloves, Gimenez also won a Platinum Glove in 2023 as the best defensive player in the American League.
The combo of Kwan and Gimenez are the first players since Roberto Alomar (1999-2001) to win Gold Gloves in three consecutive years. They also happen to be the first pair of teammates to accomplish this feat since Alomar and Vizquel managed to do so during the same time frame. This was actually the second time in Vizquel's career that this occurred, having threepeated Gold Glove wins with Kenny Lofton in the 1994, 1995, and 1996 seasons. The first player in team history to win three straight Gold Gloves was Vic Power, who actually won four consecutive from 1958-1961. It is pretty safe to say that Kwan and Gimenez are in very good company.
