Guardians make roster moves ahead of series with Detroit
The Cleveland Guardians made a handful of roster moves ahead of their four-game series with Detroit.
Cleveland has placed catcher Cam Gallagher on the 7-day concussion IL, with veteran catcher Zack Collins replacing him on the roster. Gallagher exited Wednesday's loss to Cincinnati and was replaced by rookie Bo Naylor. Collins has a .255/.364/.437 slash line with 27 doubles and 15 home runs in Triple-A Columbus.
Relief pitcher Daniel Norris has been designated for assignment. Tim Herrin has been recalled to take his place in the Guardians' bullpen. Norris has appeared in six games for the Guardians this season. The 30-year-old relief pitcher has a 3.38 ERA and 1.594 WHIP with 10 strikeouts in 10.2 innings. Walks have been an issue for the veteran lefty, as Norris has issued 11 free passes in his handful of appearances. Herrin returns to Cleveland's bullpen bringing with him a 5.55 ERA, 1.438 WHIP, and 10.4 strikeouts per nine innings in 20 games (24.1 innings).
The Cleveland Guardians enter play Thursday at 58-63 on the season, trailing the American League Central division-leading Minnesota Twins by 4.5 games. A win on Thursday would see Minnesota's lead decrease to just 4 as the Twins are idle. A loss would have them 5 games back and one step closer to seeing their chances of playing in the postseason disappear.
