Guardians have chance to make bold statement in Milwaukee
After a well-deserved off day on Thursday, the Cleveland Guardians are set to take on the Milwaukee Brewers in a three-game series featuring two of the best teams in the sport. This is going to be a tough test for the Guardians, but it also gives them the chance to make a bold statement should they win this series.
This is not going to be an easy series by any means for either team. Cleveland (72-49) comes in with the best record in baseball, while Milwaukee (69-52) owns the third-best mark in the National League. These two ballclubs have proven capable of battling it out with some of the other teams owning impressive records this season and should be able to continue that performance in this upcoming series.
There have been questions about the Guardians' sustainability and viability moving forward, but they have shown more than up to the task when facing a team worthy of putting up a genuine test. Once the team was in the midst of a seven-game slide last week, plenty of people were ready to cast them aside in favor of other teams. Since then, Cleveland has rallied by going on a five-game win streak, including a three-game sweep of the Chicago Cubs at home prior to their current road trip.
Even though the Brewers are a significantly better team than the Cubs, coming into this matchup while playing at this level should bode well for the Guardians. Entering a series against one of the best teams in baseball on this type of streak shows that they have put the struggles that occurred during their losing streak behind them and are ready to take on their next opponent.
Taking two out of three against Milwaukee would put the league on notice and definitively prove the legitimacy of this Guardians team for those who are still doubting them despite all of their success.
