Who is the Cleveland Guardians probable starting pitcher?

Logan Allen gets the call for the second game of the series against the visiting Chicago White Sox. Allen has started off 2024 strong, allowing three runs total on 10 hits in 11.2 innings while striking out nine and walking three. The three walks all came in this last start in Seattle, but none would come around to score as he kept the Mariners off the scoreboard in 6.2 innings of work.

Allen has a chance to put the Guardians in position to win their fourth consecutive series to start the season on Tuesday against Chicago. The second-year lefty has allowed nine hits in previous at-bats when facing White Sox hitters, most notably and surprisingly, five hits coming from Andrew Vaughn in 12 at-bats. Two of Vaughn's hits have gone for extra bases, with one double and one home run. The only other White Sox batter to record multiple hits against Allen is Andrew Benintendi, going 2-7, with both being doubles. Paul DeJong (1-4, double), Nicky Lopez (0-3), Martin Maldonaldo (0-2), and Yoan Moncada (1-8) have not experienced the same success as their teammates against Allen.

Who will the Cleveland Guardians lineup face?

Chicago is countering with Michael Soroka. Soroka has pitched fine in his first two starts of the season, but nothing spectacular. Allowing four runs on seven hits in a 7-6 loss to Detroit, followed by giving up just two runs on six hits in a 10-1 loss to Kansas City. The 26-year-old righty has given up a home run in each start so far, with solo shots by Nicky Velazquez of the Royals and the Tigers' Mark Canha. Interestingly enough, Soroka's home run surrendered streak dates back to last season, as the last time he did not give up a long ball was all the back on July 5th, against the Cleveland Guardians. That outing broke a previous streak of three consecutive to start 2023 for Soroka.

Guardians hitters have just 20 at-bats against Soroka, but they have done their fair share of damage in them. As a team, they have seven hits, with a double coming from Jose Ramirez, giving them a slash line of .350/.435./.400 and a team OPS of .835. With another warm day on the corner of Carnegie and Ontario, perhaps the Guardians can continue their success and avoid snapping another home run allowed streak from Soroka.
