Cleveland Guardians Probable Pitcher and Starting Lineup vs Boston Red Sox April 16
Who is the Cleveland Guardians probable starting pitcher?
Tanner Bibee will get the start for the Cleveland Guardians and is looking for a bounce-back outing in Boston. Bibee gave up five runs on six hits in 4.1 innings, with just two strikeouts and three walks. This is simply unacceptable, and a similar performance against a better Red Sox team could see an even earlier exit.
Bibee has pitched well in previous matchups with Red Sox hitters, allowing three hits in 14 at-bats, only one of which went for extra bases (a Connor Wong double). Rafael Devers and Masataka Yoshida are both 1-3 against Bibee, while Triston Casas (0-2), Jarren Duran (0-2), and Emmanuel Valdez (0-2) are hitless. Hopefully, this can carry over into Tuesday night's start to put the Guardians in position to at least split the series in Boston.
Who will the Cleveland Guardians lineup face?
Boston is turning to Garrett Whitlock in Game 2, and they really could not have asked for a better option with his dominant start to the year. Whitlock has allowed just two runs on 11 hits in 14.1 innings over three starts. There has been a bit of an issue that has popped up in his last two starts, as he has issued six free passes (four vs the Angels and two vs the Orioles). Perhaps Whitlock's lack of feel for the strike zone could lead to more walks for the 27th-ranked Guardians (44 on the year).
Like the above-mentioned Bibee, there is not a lot to off of regarding Guardians hitters versus Whitlock. As a team, they have three hits in 15 at-bats, one being a Josh Naylor double in his only at-bat against Whitlock. The other hits belong to Jose Ramirez (1-3) and Andres Gimenez (1-4). Estevan Florial (0-2), Steven Kwan (0-2), Ramon Laureano (0-2), and Austin Hedges (0-1) have not recorded a hit in previous meetings.
Who is starting for the Cleveland Guardians today?
LF Steven Kwan, 2B Andres Gimenez, 3B Jose Ramirez,1B Josh Naylor, C Bo Naylor, RF Ramon Laureano, DH Will Brennan, SS Gabriel Arias, CF Tyler Freeman
