It doesn't come as much of a surprise, but the Cleveland Guardians are optioning catching prospect Bo Naylor to Triple-A Columbus to start the 2023 season.
For the spring, Naylor had one hit in six at-bats and is currently off to play for Canada in the World Baseball Classic alongside teammate Cal Quantrill. No matter what he did this spring, though, there wasn't much of a chance that Naylor would break camp with the team because it's far more beneficial for him to get the regular at-bats down in Columbus.
Naylor's time could certainly come this season, though. The backup catching position is still very much in flux, and current starter Mike Zunino has had his fair share of injury troubles. Zunino underwent thoracic outlet surgery in June of last year, but is currently healthy.
In the meantime, Guardians fans will get to see Naylor play with Canada as the team kicks off its Pool C play this weekend.
