Sometimes it’s easy to take Steven Kwan for granted. While he’s led the Guardians in plate appearances in two of his four big league seasons, he does everything so well that it can sometimes be easy to not truly appreciate everything he’s able to do in the field and in the batter’s box.
Earlier this week Guardians fans got a reminder of just how coveted Kwan is across baseball, as he came in first in MLB’s fan vote of the top 10 left fielders in all of baseball.

Everyone in the baseball world seems to love Guardians outfielder Steven Kwan
While it’s obvious that Kwan has earned plenty of lifelong fans in Northeast Ohio, it’s still exciting to get another reminder of just how beloved he is across the MLB landscape.
While Kwan had a down 2025 season (by his standards), he’s a career .281 hitter with four Gold Gloves and two All-Star nods. He’s gone from overlooked prospect to top 50 player in the game, which is a journey that any baseball fan can enjoy.
Every team in baseball would love to have Kwan patrolling left field for them, and his uncertain future in Cleveland has likely led to some fanbases dreaming about that exact scenario.
While the Guardians have control over Kwan through the 2027 season via the arbitration process, every day that goes by without him being signed to an extension means that we’re likely a day closer to him getting traded.
Although the Guardians opened up a potential pathway to sign him thanks to the money they saved from José Ramírez signing another team-friendly extension, it’s still not a guarantee that Cleveland’s front office will repurpose those savings toward Kwan.
What makes Kwan’s inclusion at No. 1 on the list even sweeter was the fact that he was left off MLB Network’s list of the top left fielders in the game, which was compiled by someone (or something) called “The Shredder.”

That list featured Jarren Duran at the top where he was followed by Roman Anthony and Cody Bellinger — who were ranked at the No. 9 (Bellinger) and No. 10 (Anthony) on the fan vote.
Although Duran’s a solid outfielder (who would be a great fit for the Guardians), he’s not better than Kwan. And, if we want to get into semantics, 2025 marked his first year as a full-time left fielder.
The same can be said for Bellinger, who played a career-high 85 games in left field last season while also bouncing around in center and right.
Meanwhile, all but one of Kawn’s appearances in the past three seasons have come in left field.
He’s the gold standard for MLB left fielders, and it’s clear that the fans recognize it — even if “The Shredder” doesn’t.
