Fans of the Cleveland Guardians who get to watch Jose Ramirez play on a regular basis know just how good of a player he is. Those who reside outside of Northeast Ohio may appreciate Ramirez, but may not truly understand what he is capable of.

The result of this is being inadvertently excluded from conversations regarding who the best of the best players in baseball are, often being relegated to the second or third group of players listed. This makes Ramirez's placement in a recent power ranking of baseball's best hitters even more impressive.

Ramirez was voted as Major League Baseball's seventh-best hitter in the first edition of hitter power rankings for the 2025 season. MLB.com's Andrew Simon would provide some insight into how the group of voters arrived at Ramirez's placement on this list, "Since establishing himself as a regular in the Cleveland lineup in 2016, Ramírez has averaged nearly 6 WAR per full season, while posting a 136 OPS+. At age 32, he’s showing no signs of slowing down.". Ramirez has proven to be a consistent hitter year-in and year-out, and 2024 was one of his best.

Slashing .279/.335/.537 with 39 home runs, 39 doubles, 41 stolen bases, and a career-high 118 runs driven in, Ramirez again proved himself worthy of being in the conversation for the American League's Most Valuable Player Award, finishing in 5th place. This was Ramirez's fifth Top 5 AL MVP finish and third in the last five seasons.

With his performance, the veteran switch-hitter nearly became the second member of the 40-40-40 club last season alongside Alfonso Soriano, who accomplished the feat in 2006, finishing just a double and home run shy. It's pretty easy to imagine that if the Guardians played their full slate of games (Game 162 was canceled), Ramirez could have matched Sorianio's achievement or at least gotten to 40-40.
