There’s no denying that José Ramírez’s major league journey has been a whirlwind. After initially making his Major League debut as a pinch-runner and once being viewed as a roadblock for Francisco Lindor’s development, he’s turned into one of the sport’s best players who seems destined to make the Hall of Fame.

And, if he does end up having a plaque in Cooperstown, his Silver Slugger legacy will be a prominent part of it. Ramírez has won five Silver Sluggers throughout his career and could end up netting another this year after a strong 2025 season

With that in mind, here’s a look at all of Ramírez’s Silver Slugger seasons.

The American League Silver Slugger award at Third Base is a José Ramírez legacy award at this point

2017

After netting some back-end MVP votes in 2016 during the Guardians’ run toward the World Series (which helped him earn a five-year, $26 million extension), 2017 was when Ramírez truly broke out.

Ramírez slashed .318/.374/.583 with 29 home runs, 83 RBI and a league-leading 56 doubles for a Guardians team that ended up losing to the Yankees in the ALDS. Along with recording nine consecutive multi-hit games during the season, he also recorded five extra-base hits in a game with the Tigers.

While he filled in at second base after Jason Kipnis got hurt, he won the award as a third baseman.

2018

The 2018 season was arguably Ramírez’s best,  as he hit 39 home runs and drove in 105 RBI (his first 100+ RBI season) with a .270/.387/.552 slashline. He also stole 34 bases, walked 106 times and had 38 doubles.

He became the third Cleveland baseball player to join the 30-30 club (joining Joe Carter and Grady Sizemore) and the first player in the majors to have a 30-30 season since Mike Trout in 2012.

He also became the first Cleveland baseball player to have a season with 30+ home runs, 30+ steals, 100+ runs scored and 100+ RBI. He finished in third in the MVP voting.

2020

While Ramírez didn’t win the 2019 Silver Slugger award thanks to a rough first half of the season, he found his groove again in the back half of the truncated 2020 season.

Ramírez hit .358 with 12 home runs and 28 RBI in September, and smashed six home runs over a seven-game span at the end of the month to help push Cleveland into the postseason. He capped that span with a walk-off home run against the White Sox to clinch a postseason berth.

In total, he hit .292 with 17 home runs, 46 RBI and 16 doubles. He ended up finishing second to José Abreu in MVP voting.

2022

After losing out to Rafael Devers in 2021, Ramírez got another Silver Slugger win in 2022 in the first year of his 5-year, $124 million extension. He recorded 48 through his first 42 games, which was tied for the third-most in club history through the end of May.

In the end, he finished the season with a .280/.355/.514 slashline with 29 home runs and 126 RBI along with leading the majors in doubles (44) and intentional walks (20). His 126 RBI still stand as his career-high.

2024

Ramírez’s most recent Silver Slugger win (for now) was an impressive showing in a season that resulted in the Guardians once again making it to October.

He hit .379/.335/.537 and fell just one home short of becoming the seventh player to join the 40-40 club. He ended up finishing the year with 39 doubles, 39 home runs and 41 stolen bases.
