Time and time again, Cleveland Guardians third baseman Jose Ramirez has proven that there is no limit to what he can accomplish. No matter who surrounds him in the lineup, Ramirez continues to put up impressive numbers, resulting in finishing in the top six of American League MVP voting in four of the past five seasons. However, the latest prediction for what he might do at the plate in 2025 is something he has yet to accomplish.
When it comes to who might be the Guardians' home run leader in 2025, it should come as no surprise that Ramirez was selected by Bleacher Report's Joel Reuter in Predicting Every MLB Team's 2025 Home Run Leader. Ramirez has led Cleveland in home runs for the past five seasons, with 2019's injury-shortened season being the last time someone else has taken that honor (Carlos Santana - 34). The real story here is the projected total for Ramirez.
Reuter believes that Ramirez could reach the 40-homer mark that he barely missed out on last season, finishing just shy of a 40-40 season. While some may doubt that possibility due to the state of the Guardians lineup and the loss of Josh Naylor, Reuter does not share that same concern, "Those 39 home runs matched a career-high, and while losing Josh Naylor as protection in the lineup is a blow, Carlos Santana is a solid replacement and full seasons of Kyle Manzardo and Lane Thomas should give the lineup a further boost.".
The question here that everyone has been trying to find the answer to this offseason is whether or not the Guardians have enough offense to compete. As mentioned by Reuter, the trio of Santana, Manzardo, and Thomas should more than make up for Naylor's subtraction from the lineup. The eventual call-up of Chase Delauter should also help, while the offensive production they receive from second base this season should be more than what they have received from the now-departed Andres Gimenez.
It does seem that there is potential for the Guardians' offensive output to exceed what they were able to produce last season, and if that happens to be the case, do not be surprised if Ramirez not only leads the team in long balls in 2025, but he could hit 40 or more, possibly en route to an accolade that has eluded his grasp for quite some time.
