The Cleveland Guardians and Minnesota Twins were unable to return to play on Monday night due to the weather, with the game eventually being suspended after a lengthy rain delay. The two teams are set to resume play on Tuesday at 6:10 P.M. Eastern Time before returning later in the night to begin what has effectively become the second part of a doubleheader.

Monday night's contest came to a halt in the top of the 4th inning, with the Twins holding on to a slight 2-1 lead over the Guardians.

The two teams traded runs early in the game, with Cleveland getting on the board in the top of the 1st courtesy of a two-out RBI double from Kyle Manzardo. Minnesota would answer in the bottom of the inning and would proceed to take the lead in the 2nd with an RBI double of their own.

Both Cleveland and Minnesota will be forced to navigate their pitching staff in a different manner than they intended before Monday's game began. Logan Allen pitched 3 innings for the Guardians, allowing two runs on four hits and one walk while striking out three. It was not a spectacular start from Allen, but it was good enough to at least keep the Twins within striking distance.

The Guardians will not be sad to see someone other than Bailey Ober on the mound when the game continues on Tuesday. Cleveland had only three hits in the contest before the game was paused, and that makes the prospect of facing anyone else incredibly appealing.

This is a very important week of baseball for the Cleveland Guardians, as they have seven games against division opponents, with a four-game series in Detroit following this now abbreviated three-game set in Minnesota. Cleveland cannot afford to lose more games than they win, as they are 5 games behind the AL Central-leading Tigers, with the conclusion of Monday's suspended game either putting them 4.5 or 5.5 back. Ideally, Cleveland wins twice today to make a substantial dent in Detroit's lead, but a couple of losses could have them in a position where the postseason may be out of reach.
