Guardians relief ace Erik Sabrowski cements good guy status with Rockies charity donation after clinch

On Saturday, the Guardians officially clinched the American League Central thanks to a 20 minute period where they picked up a win over the Royals that was quickly followed by a Rockies win over the White Sox that closed the book on the American League Central. 

The Rockies 2026 season may not stand the test of time thanks to the fact they won just 58 games, but their win over the White Sox should live on in Cleveland for a good part of the foreseeable future. 

And Guardians fans have decided to reward the Rockies for that win by donating to Clothes to Kids of Denver Inc., the charity of choice for Rockies All-Star catcher Hunter Goodman. 

Goodman helped jumpstart the Rockies’ aforementioned win over the White Sox with a two-homer game, and Cleveland’s fans have rewarded him in a pretty selfless way. 

It’s not just the fans either, as some Twitter sleuths noticed that Guardians reliever Erik Sabrowski also donated $250 to the charity. 

Goodman may not play for the Guardians, but he’s one of the most beloved sports figures in Cleveland right now. 

Erik Sabrowski just pulled off a classy move by donating to Hunter Goodman’s charity of choice 

Sabrowski stood out as a good guy before his donation, and the donation just added to it even more. He’s always been a good quote, and made it to MLB after a ​​long winding journey that included a collegiate stop at Cloud County Community College in Kansas followed by a long stint in the minor leagues. 

The Guardians picked him up from the Padres in the minor league portion of the Rule 5 Draft, and he’s done nothing but dominate since making his debut in 2024. 

Sabrowski recorded a new career-high in innings pitched this season, and has grown to become one of the best left-handed options in the Guardians’ ‘pen. 

And then there’s Goodman. He helped pad the Rockies’ lead over the White Sox on Saturday with a third inning home run that helped pad Colorado’s lead, and he put the game away with a three-run dinger in the ninth inning. 

Goodman’s name was floated in a variety of trade rumors, but the Rockies elected to hold onto him thanks to his power and team control. 

It remains to be seen if he’s going to be there for the Rockies’ next core, but he was there this weekend, and that was more than enough to help the Guardians win the AL Central.
