Stephen Vogt earned two All-Star nods in his 10 year MLB playing career.

He’s now earned his first one as a manager.

On Tuesday, MLB announced that Vogt will be joining Aaron Boone’s staff for the American League in this year’s All-Star Game in Atlanta. Boone earned the right to manage in this year’s All-Star game after his Yankees beat Vogt’s Guardians in the American League Championship Series.

While there’s been some bad blood between the Yankees and Guardians in recent years, Vogt earning a spot on Boone’s staff is a tangible example of the amount of respect the two contemporaries have for each other.

They both had long playing careers that resulted in them earning All-Star nods, and they’ve gone against each other plenty of times in Vogt’s short managerial career.

After going 2-4 against the Yankees in the regular season last year, the two teams battled in the ALCS in a series that featured plenty of drama and epic swings. The Guardians have gone 3-3 against the Yankees this year.

Vogt beat out Boone for the American League Manager of the Year Award last year, and he played with the Braves in 2021 in their World Series winning season. Vogt’s inclusion on Boone’s staff marks the first time a Cleveland manager has been on an All-Star staff since Terry Francona was included on Kevin Cash’s staff in 2021.

Vogt will be joined in the dugout by legendary manager Joe Torre, who Boone appointed as an honorary coach. The former Yankees skipper currently serves as the Special Assistant to the Commissioner, and is fifth all-time with 2,326 managerial wins.

On the other side, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts announced that he’ll be joined in the dugout by Marlins manager Calyton McCullough (who worked on Roberts’ staff prior to joining the Marlins) and the Braves’ Brian Snitker.

Vogt won’t be the only other Guardian to make the trek down to Atlanta, as José Ramírez is a near shoo-in to win the fan voting at third base. He has a 600,000 vote lead on Alex Bregman, and is continuing to put together an incredible season. Steven Kwan is also in line to advance to the second phase of voting in the outfield.

Vogt earning this nod is just another impressive accolade in what’s been a strong 1 1/2 year run for the Guardians manager. While Cleveland’s struggled lately, Vogt has been able to get the most out of an incomplete roster, and has proved that he can handle the ebbs and flows of an MLB season well.

It seems like it’ll only be a matter of time until he’s managing the All-Star Game himself.
