While the Cleveland Guardians’ lineup has featured an exciting amount of change as of late, not all of that change has been good.

They’ve made some much-needed ones (like adding Jo Adell and Nathaniel Lowe and replacing Gabriel Arias with Angel Genao), but they’ve also had to make some changes out of necessity.

The latest example of that came on Wednesday when the Guardians placed Rhys Hoskins on the injured list with a back injury and called up David Fry in his place.

While he’s the only player the Guardians have placed on the injured list this week, they still have plenty of players who are banged up. Here’s a look where things stand with the Guardians.

Rhys Hoskins back injury has changed the Guardians’ first base picture

Manager Stephen Vogt told reporters that Hoskins’ back injury flared up on Tuesday, which led to him undergoing an MRI and hitting the injured list.

Hoskins hasn’t had the kind of season that anyone expected (.179/.306/.376 slashline with 13 home runs), but he’s a valuable clubhouse presence. His spot on the roster will be filled by David Fry, who has also struggled this season but has been on a huge tear in the minors.

Hoskins’ placement on the injured list meant that Nathaniel Lowe got a rare start against a left-handed starter on Wednesday (though all but one of his at-bats ended up coming against right-handers).

It looks like Lowe and Fry will make up Cleveland’s first base platoon for the time being.

The Guardians outfield is as banged up as its been all season

Meanwhile, the Guardians have spent most of the week without Jo Adell and Chase DeLauter, who are both dealing with lower body injuries. Adell played in Tuesday’s game and recorded a career-high six RBI, but he sustained a left knee contusion after fouling a ball off his knee didn't play in the Guardians loss on Wednesday.

However, he made his return with a pinch-hit at-bat in the sixth inning of Thursday's WHAT and seems set to be back in the starting lineup later today against the Rockies.

Prior to the game, Adell told MLB.com's Tim Stebbins he was doing much better, and his return showed that.

Meanwhile DeLauter hasn’t played since Sunday due to a knee injury and also hasn’t been available off the bench.

Although Vogt told Stebbins that DeLauter was tracking toward a return, his absence has been a stark reminder of how much injuries were a part of his minor league career. His injury hamstrung the Guardians a bit in Wednesday's loss, but it seems like they avoided it being anything more serious.

Daniel Schneemann, Kahlil Watson and Cooper Ingle are the Guardians’ top options who could be called up if DeLauter, Adell or any other outfielder is forced to hit the injured list.
