On Monday night, New York Yankees shortstop Jazz Chisholm Jr. appeared on the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon and unequivocally declared that the Yankees are going to win the World Series.
Chisholm making such a declaration shouldn’t be much of a surprise given he’s one of the great personalities in baseball and is one of the sport's most outspoken players.
But being that outspoken comes with an intense microscope, and Guardians legendary announcer Tom Hamilton put that microphone on Chisholm last night.
When Chisholm stepped to the plate in the first inning of Cleveland’s eventual 9-4 win, Hamilton pointed out that Chisholm was on the JImmy Fallon show the night prior, before slyly mentioning that Chisholm was hitting just .239 at the time of the plate appearance.
Spicy.
Tom Hamilton on Jazz Chisholm: "Pretty amazing he got on the Jimmy Fallon Show batting .239."

Tom Hamilton had something to say about Jazz Chisholm Jr.s recent TV apperance
There’s more to Chisholm getting on Jimmy Fallon than just his batting average. As mentioned above, he’s one of the sport’s best personalities and has found a way to blend the line between sports, fashion and culture in a way that few in MLB have been able to do.
But being such an icon comes with great responsibility.
While Chisholm was still an icon at the start of his career in Miami (he was on the cover of MLB The Show 23, after all), it never attracted the same amount of headlines since he was playing for the lowly Marlins.

But he’s done a good job taking advantage of the added attention in New York, and has largely been a productive player while doing it (.248/.326/.461 with 48 home runs and 123 RBI in 232 games) and helped lead the team to the World Series in 2024 and earned his first career All-Star nod in ‘25.
But he’s struggled a bit this season, and entered play yesterday with just six home runs despite declaring prior to the season that he was looking to join the 50/50 club. He currently has six home runs and 14 RBI.
Then there’s the Hamilton of all this. Not only is he a Hall of Fame announcer who has been the voice of Cleveland baseball for years, but he never seems afraid to speak his mind. He had the call of his life in 2023 with “Down Goes Anderson,” but yesterday’s game was a reminder of how much personality he sprinkles into every moment of a broadcast.
But it is worth noting that his criticism of Chisholm being on Jimmy Fallon misses some key context. Yes, he’s hitting just .239, but he still has an OPS+ of 96 and has been worth four Outs Above Average on defense.
Is he a bit overrated? Yes. But he’s not the first player to be overrated because he plays in pinstripes.
