The 2025 MLB Draft opens on Sunday night with the first three rounds before the other 17 rounds will be held across the rest of the weekend. Those rounds include the Prospect Promotion Incentive picks, the compensation picks, and the competitive balance selections.
The Guardians’ handsprings will be all over those rounds, as they have five Day One picks, which should tip their hand in terms of how they want to build the future of their roster.
While none of the players they draft will contribute to their MLB future any time soon, it’ll provide some reinforcements to an already-deep farm system ahead of the trade deadline.
Complete list of Guardians’ 2025 MLB Draft picks
Here’s when the Guardians will be on the clock across the weekend.
- First Round, No. 27
- Second Round, No. 64
- Competitive Balance Round B, No. 66
- Competitive Balance Round B, No. 70
- Third Round, No. 101
- Fourth Round, No. 132
- Fifth Round, No. 162
- Rounds 6 - 20, the Guardians will have the No. 27 selection of each round
The Guardians have two Competitive Balance Round B picks because they acquired their second one from the Arizona Diamondbacks in their offseason trade where they shipped Josh Naylor to the desert in exchange for Slade Cecconi.
Cecconi is beginning to look more and more like a frontline starter for the Guardians, while Naylor has been solid for the Diamondbacks but is likely going to end up elsewhere after the trade deadline.
Last year the Guardians had the No. 1 pick in the draft and took Travis Bazzana, who is currently playing at Double-A. While they don’t have a chance to add one of the top options in this year’s draft, they do have a chance to add some solid options thanks to having so many picks in the middle of the draft.
