6. Enyel De Los Santos - Relief Pitcher
When the Cleveland Guardians signed Enyel De Los Santos to a minor league contract ahead of the 2022 season, nobody thought much of it. With a career ERA over 6.00 and WHIP above 1.600, signing De Los Santos did not seem like it would have much of an impact on anything. That all changed when he came to Cleveland.
In his two seasons with the Guardians, De Los Santos would have a 3.18 ERA, 1.109 WHIP, and 9.3 strikeouts per nine innings, far better than what he showed previously during his time with the Philadelphia Phillies and Pittsburgh Pirates. Cleveland would trade De Los Santos to the San Diego Padres before the 2024 season, and unfortunately, his newfound success did not follow.
De Los Santos would go on to play for three different teams in 2024 with very underwhelming results. With a combined 5.20 ERA and 1.406 WHIP in 64 appearances, De Los Santos was not really able to deliver the results the Padres, New York Yankees, or Chicago White Sox were looking for.
At just 29 years old, De Los Santos should catch on with a new team before the season begins, as there is no such thing as having too many relief pitchers. Who knows, maybe he will be able to regain his form that showed so much promise in Cleveland and can hang on for an entire season, if not longer.
