4. Juan Brito sees bulk of starts at second base
A hole at second base was created after the Cleveland Guardians decided to trade Andres Gimenez to the Toronto Blue Jays. While there are several candidates to take Gimenez's spot in the lineup, do not be surprised if Juan Brito gets most of the starts at second this season.
Brito is coming off a strong season for the Columbus Clippers last season, slashing .256/.365/.443 with 40 doubles and 21 home runs in 144 games in 2024. This is not a one-year outlier, as this falls in line with the success Brito has experienced across all levels of Cleveland's minor league system. Sustaining a certain level of productivity at the plate against multiple levels of competition shows that he is more than capable of taking on any challenge he is tasked with.
The possibility of Brito being Cleveland's primary second baseman is not solely based on his performance. Cleveland's other options are either incredibly underwhelming or better utilized in a multi-position part-time role. Brito taking over second base duties would allow the likes of Angel Martinez, Tyler Freeman, and Daniel Schneemann to play the complementary roles they are best suited for.
