4. Figure out their plan for second base
Following the Cleveland Guardians' decision to trade Andres Gimenez to the Toronto Blue Jays, the second base position is now in a state of flux. There are several options for the Guardians to consider to take over for Gimenez following his departure, but the sooner they make a decision, the better it will be for all parties involved.
In case anyone forgot, there was a competition for the starting shortstop position last year, and it did take a good amount of time into the regular season before the Guardians found someone they were comfortable with starting on a regular basis. Going down the same path again but with second is not an endeavor they should look to take on.
Juan Brito, Angel Martinez, Daniel Schneemann, and Tyler Freeman could all vy for the starting job, but it is worth mentioning that everyone but Brito could also see time in the outfield, which may give him somewhat of an advantage over the others. Of course, most are focused on when last year's first overall pick in the MLB June Amateur Draft, Travis Bazzana, will make his debut, but most expect that to be a little later in the season rather than Opening Day. Until then, they must figure out who their primary option is as soon as possible instead of letting the same series of events that took place last season play out in 2025 at second base.
