The Cleveland Guardians are looking to build upon their success from 2024, a season that saw them win 92 games and the American League Central division. If they are going to accomplish that, they will need some contributions from at least one player who is not expected to be a high-level contributor at this moment. The following four players are potential X-Factors for the Cleveland Guardians in 2025.
1. Chase DeLauter - Outfielder
This is an obvious entry for the Guardians. Chase DeLauter making his way to the majors in 2025 in some capacity would certainly help Cleveland's current outfield situation. The Guardians can count on Steven Kwan, but that's really about it. The group, likely consisting of Lane Thomas, Will Brennan, and Jhonkensy Noel, leaves something to be desired, and finding a way to get more out of their outfield is an absolute must. This is where DeLauter comes in.
DeLauter has impressed across his first two seasons in Cleveland's minor league system, slashing .317/.387/.517 with 32 doubles, 13 home runs, and 63 RBI while striking out 52 times compared to 42 walks in 96 games. Clearly, there is no issue with DeLauter's abilities on the field, his problem has been staying on it.
The 23-year-old DeLauter has missed a ton of time over the past two seasons due to injuries, and while it does not appear to have stunted his development, there are concerns about his long-term availability. With that being said, if DeLauter is on the big league roster and manages to stay healthy, he may be able to provide the Guardians with the difference-making production they are looking for.
