There are quite a few Cleveland Guardians players who appear ready for the regular season to begin, and then there are the others. Those who have struggled and look like they would be better off with a few extra weeks to prepare for the upcoming 162-game campaign.

1. Juan Brito - Second Base

With the Cleveland Guardians needing to find Andres Gimenez's replacement at second base, Juan Brito was under consideration to take over that starting role. However, Brito has struggled at the plate in Arizona, essentially taking him out of the running to be Cleveland's starting second baseman on Opening Day.

Brito has just four hits in 30 at-bats and has struck out eight times while walking twice. Three of Brito's four hits have been home runs, but that is not nearly good enough, considering that his main competition, Gabriel Arias, has twice as many hits in only two more at-bats. Arias clearly has the upper hand over Brito and barring any sort of extreme change of cicrumstances, will be Cleveland's Opening Day second baseman.

One part of Cleveland trading Gimenez to the Toronto Blue Jays was in an attempt to get more offense from second base, and it does not appear they are going to get that from Brito at this time. Sure, the home runs are nice, but the Guardians need a solid all-around hitter in their lineup, and that is not what Brito is right now. Perhaps Brito will eventually be able to be that type of hitter, but it seems like it is going to take some time before that could come to fruition.
