Sometimes it can take a village to carry an MLB team to the finish line of a 162-game season. Every team has its superstars or roster mainstays that are in the lineup everyday, but every team runs into a position where they need to have some innings or at-bats covered by players who weren’t part of the preseason plans.

The 2026 Clevleand Guardians were no stranger to that theme, as 48 players suited up for them at one point or another during their run toward an American League Central crown. Here are three players who had blink-and-you’ll-miss-it tenures with the Guardians.

Not every player who played for the Guardians in 2026 made a big impact

RHP Kolby Allard (8 2/3 innings)

While Allard may have helped save the Guardians in 2025, his performance in 2026 left a lot to be desired. He broke camp to serve as the team’s longman, but he made just four subpar appearances before being cut loose.

The final straw came on April 12 when he was forced to eat the final three innings of the Guardians’ 13-1 loss to the Braves on Sunday Night Baseball. Allard signed two other minor contracts with the Guardians before finally leaving them in June to head back to the Phillies. He recorded 36 subpar innings for their Triple-A team before sustaining a season-ending adductor injury.

Allard salvaged his career with the Guardians in 2025, but his horrible showing for them at the start of 2026 could be the final big league action of his career.

OF Stuart Fairchild (19 at-bats)

Fun fact: Fairchild made his big league debut on July 6, 2021 as a pinch-runner for none other than Stephen Vogt. Not only is that a fun piece of trivia, but it’s also more interesting than anything that happened during Fairchild’s tenure with the Guardians.

He entered the season as a solid depth option and helped his case with a solid showing in the World Baseball Classic, but his Guardians debut didn’t come until the end of May after Steven Kwan was placed on the bereavement list. Fairchild recorded seven walks in his 14 games with the Guardians, but he also struck out 13 times and had just three hits.

The Guardians designated him for assignment at the end of June and he ended up with the Mariners after electing free agency. He made one appearance with the Mariners and finished the season in their minor league system.

Fairchild was a worthwhile dice roll but his time in Cleveland was pretty forgettable. At least he got a chance to be managed by a former teammate.

RHP Carlos Hernández (6 innings)

Hernández making a return to the big leagues with the Guardians in 2026 was an incredibly impressive achievement given he suffered some serious injuries in a car accident in January. But his time in Cleveland left a lot to be desired.

The Guardians called him up as a part of their September roster expansion, and they immediately put him to work with back-to-back appearances at the end of losses to the Blue Jays. He was designated for assignment after his second appearance against Toronto and finished the season in the minors. He just elected minor league free agency.

Hernández was given a horrible hand since he was asked to eat it in both of his appearances, but his performance on the mound then wasn’t great either.
