3. Jose Urquidy - Starting Pitcher
Let's get one thing straight here: the starting rotation of the Cleveland Guardians is a much bigger issue than people want to admit. It is Tanner Bibee and a whole bunch of arms that you hope are capable of holding up over the course of a season, with the most likely outcome being that they are not able to. If the Guardians want to take some meaningful action to rectify this, they should pursue the services of Jose Urquidy.
During the 2021 and 2022 seasons, Urquidy was a solid arm for the Houston Astros, compiling a 3.81 ERA and 1.098 WHIP in 49 games (48 starts). Unfortunately, injuries and poor performance have been the themes since then, making him a prime candidate for a change of scenery that could revitalize his career.
In all likelihood, Urquidy is a middle-of-the-rotation starter capable of consistent yet unspectacular results. While this does not sound particularly enticing, bringing in a pitcher fitting this description would go a long way for Cleveland's rotation. Having someone like Urquidy in a supporting role makes their rotation more formidable and would reduce the amount of reliance on arms that have proven incapable of being MLB starters and/or hoping one of more of their flier arms can handle the workload.
