2. Brendan Rodgers - Second Base
Thanks to Cleveland's front office determining it necessary to trade Andres Gimenez to the Toronto Blue Jays, the Guardians have a hole at second base without any true answers at the moment. Eventually, the expectation is for Travis Bazzana to take the position and run with it, but until that time, they need someone to man second. Perhaps kicking the tires on former Colorado Rockies second baseman Brendan Rodgers could give them the placeholder they are looking for.
No one is going to confuse Rodgers with being a long-term answer by any means, but there is some potential upside here that could make his expected low cost worth it. In seasons in which he has played more than 50 games, Rodgers has hit 10+ home runs, 20+ doubles, and finished with an OPS+ of 94 or more.
While he is most likely an average offensive contributor at best, part of the reason why the Guardians traded Gimenez away was his lack of offense. If they could bring someone into the mix capable of providing average offense, it could make their decision to send him north of the border a bit more forgivable, and signing Rodgers may be a way for them to make that happen.
