Steven Kwan - Left Field
A team's leadoff hitter can set the tone for an offense on any given day, and luckily for the Cleveland Guardians, theirs has performed well out of the gate. Steven Kwan has a team-best 19 hits and 12 runs scored in 15 games, helping the Guardians establish and maintain leads along the way.
Kwan's .322/.375/.441 slash line is what is pretty much expected of him, with his slugging percentage seeing a little bump from last season's career-best of .425. It is still very early, but it is encouraging to see someone who is mostly viewed as just a singles hitters continue to see his output in this area grow.
The 27-year-old left fielder is never going to be a primary source of power in any lineup he is in, although, he could develop into someone who can hit for extra bases on a more regular basis. If Kwan can hit for 2+ bases more frequently, it will only make Cleveland's lineup more difficult to navigate for opposing pitchers. Giving the two through five hitters more opportunities to hit with a runner in scoring position should result in more runs being scored and more importantly, wins.
