Opening Day is less than a week away, and spring training is nearing its end as teams finalize their rosters for the beginning of the regular season. For the most part, teams have a pretty good idea of who will be entering the regular season locked in at the plate and those who will need a little bit of time to truly get going. When it comes to the Cleveland Guardians, there are three players who have stood out with their performance in Arizona.
1. Brayan Rocchio - Shortstop
Following his first season as Cleveland's everyday shortstop, Brayan Rocchio appears more than ready to be an impactful player with a bat in his hand rather than just in the field. Rocchio has been one of the Guardians' best offensive performers in spring training, with 12 hits in 37 at-bats, four of which have been doubles. With his production in the Cactus League, Rocchio looks like he is poised to prove he can be someone capable of coming through with an extra-base hit when needed.
Rocchio slashed .206/.298/.316 in 143 games last season, with 18 doubles and eight home runs, a rather unspectacular performance at the plate. Once the playoffs began, however, Rocchio became a more impactful player. Rocchio went 11-33 with two doubles and a home run during Cleveland's playoff run, showing that he has the potential to be a productive offensive shortstop. If Rocchio can carry over his success from the postseason and spring training into the regular season, the Guardians' chances for success look a whole lot better.
