The Magic Number is 4

Entering the season it was known that the Cleveland Indians pitching staff would be able to hold down opponents in most games, but what the offense would need to do on a given night was still unknown. Now, it seems like four is the number that the offense needs to post to get a win.

So far this season, the Tribe are 7-1 when scoring four runs or more, leaving them with a 1-7 record when they fall short of that mark. The one game that they won with less than four runs was the 2-0 win in Chicago when Shane Bieber and Lucas Giolito got into a pitching duel, sending the game into extra innings before the first run.

Offensive production has been hit and miss for the Tribe this season. The team is tied for the fourth lowest mark in the MLB for runs, third lowest for hits and fourth lowest for RBI. Now, Cleveland is tied for eighth in home runs and tied for the fourth lowest strikeout mark so there are some positives.

While the team should focus on getting one run at a time, knowing the change in success once four runs is reached is a bit relaxing. Hopefully, the record improves when they can’t get to four runs or better yet, they just get to four runs more often.
