There are Cleveland Indians fans who are still Yan Gomes fans. The former Tribe backstop just got a brand new deal with his current team.

The Cleveland Indians news cycle is rather slow right now. And I am glad about that considering the whole holiday thing and pies and leftovers and all that.

Before the holiday officially began, a former Indians catcher got himself a nice new deal.

I know plenty of Indians fans who still talk about and root for Yan Gomes, so it is nice to see him get that cash.

Gomes was traded to Washington so the Indians could start Roberto Perez in a full-time role. Gomes won himself a World Series title and Perez emerged as one of the best defensive catchers in the game.

It was easy to root for Gomes and the Nationals in the World Series when the other team was the Houston Astros. The Nationals even overcame (alleged) cheating by Houston. Not even Michael Brantley could sway me to root at all for the Astros.

Gomes was an All-Star in his final season with the Indians but the price tag became too much when Perez was waiting in the wings. The move left the Indians without a great backup catcher, but that isn’t the make or break position for the Indians right now. There are much bigger roster questions at hand.

So many former Indians gave fans great memories and Gomes is no exception. October magic and clutch moments for six seasons makes it hard for anyone to hate on Gomes. He is not at the Rajai Davis level, yet not too far off.

Next. Jonathan Villar is a name to keep an eye on. dark

Are you happy about the Gomes signing? Or are you questioning why I care? Let me know as we all sit in silence awaiting any move that makes the Indians better.
