As the Cleveland Indians continue their playoff chase, Cody Allen continues to impress in his 2018 campaign. He’s now closing in on an all-time record in Indians history.

There were a lot of stellar moments in the Cleveland Indians‘ Tuesday night win over the Royals. But one moment that really stood out was Cody Allen closing out another victory for the Indians. You might say “hey, he does that a lot… sometimes with the inclusion of including a heart attack.”

It’s true, Cody Allen has his moments making Indians fans worry, but he gets the job done. Now he’s one step closer to being the best guy at getting the job done in Indians franchise history. Cody Allen earned his 139th save as a Cleveland Indians closer. That means he tied the previous franchise record held by Bob Wickman.

It’s been a roller coaster season for Allen. He started off tremendously in April and then plummeted. In May he had a 3.97 ERA. June saw his ERA rise to 4.10 but then he got it together. In his last six outings he hasn’t allowed a run and just one hit. He’s earned five saves in that span including last night’s. That was his seventeenth save of the year.

Allen is now on pace to top his career-best 34 saves in a season. If he continues at this rate, he may be able to ask for a better asking price in the offseason. That is however; if he’s able to start striking out more hitters.

Allen is a bit behind pace for his usual strikeout numbers as he is only at 40 Ks. His ERA is also up from previous years, although he still has a consistent WHIP of 1.10.

Before free agency arrives there is a season to be played. Cody Allen is still having a heck of a season and is close to a part of Indians history. While he can sometimes put us on the edge of our seats, we should appreciate how much work he does for the team, before it’s too late.
