We start with this:

Not great, Buster!

This is just terrible and goes back to the tweet shared on the first slide of this post. The offense and the starting rotation are putting up some special numbers, but the bullpen is just flat-out bad.

There seems to be a new player among the group every few days, and it is clear the front office didn’t think things would be this bad after essentially ignoring the position in the offseason. A lot of faith was put in the group in town, and that hasn’t worked out so well.

Andrew Miller has dealt with injuries and Cody Allen hasn’t been as dominant as normal. Add in the names of Alexi Ogando, Oliver Drake, Jeff Beliveau, Josh Tomlin, Ben Taylor, Evan Marshall, Neil Ramirez, Zach McAllister, Matt Belisle and the list goes on.

Even Tyler Olson, who didn’t allow an earned run in 2017, is currently sporting a 6.19 ERA. Miller is sitting with a mark of 4.40.

I tend not to panic with this team because there has been the familiar formula of waiting until the trade deadline to make trades. I still expect that to happen, but the process may be rushed if the bullpen continues to be this horrible.

The season can be ruined early if the front office stays put, but I would expect some more bad bullpen play to result in a move out of necessity.
