Cleveland Indians fans have expressed interest in the team going after Manny Machado, but another big name remains on the market.

It isn’t likely that the Cleveland Indians make any major moves before opening camp next week. But the Cavaliers may have given Cleveland sports fans some new hope.

The Cavs shook up their roster in a matter of hours, making several trades to improve the team. They shot their shot, so to say.

The Indians don’t need to make as many moves as the Cavs did, but trade mania is officially here. The Indians joining in on the madness would be exciting.

The only big trade the team could make would be for Manny Machado. However, an even bigger move could be made not by a trade, but via free agency.

J.D. Martinez remains a free agent and is reportedly not happy with the offer given to him by the Boston Red Sox. I hope I one day reach a point where I’m offended if someone offers me $100 million.

ESPN.com’s David Schoenfield took a look at the potential places for Martinez to sign if he doesn’t go to Boston, and the Indians popped up on his list. Martinez coming to Cleveland is unlikely given the fact he has already turned down an offer that would be an Indians record, but maybe he gets angry and accepts a short-term deal in hopes of winning a title in 2018.

It’s not likely, but it’s February so we can have fun and explore all the potential possibilities.

In case you forgot, the Indians sported an outfield of Cowgill, Rajai Davis and Marlon Byrd to open the 2016 season. That season ended in a World Series berth, so I guess the formula worked.
