The Cleveland Indians haven’t made any major additions this offseason, but that is due in part to the rising salaries already in town.

Cleveland Indians fans have had a rough week. Well, at least the most pessimistic of the bunch.

Jay Bruce leaving the team for the New York Mets has angered some fans, but the value he settled for should be telling in the sense that the Indians’ front office may be more confident in the group already in town.

When it comes to Bruce and salary, arbitration season plays a bigger role in this than some fans may realize. Let’s start with the deal for Cody Allen.

Whoa! That’s a lot of money for a reliever.

Cody Allen will be paid more than Andrew Miller in 2018, and both will be set for big paydays in 2019 when they hit free agency. We can worry about that doom at the end of the year.

And while we’re on the topic of money, let’s talk about another reliever:

So as fans can see, a lot of money is tied up in the bullpen this season. The losses of Bryan Shaw and Joe Smith remain tough, but also remain unaffordable at this time. Yes, the “Dolans are cheap” crowd can have their day, but it makes no sense for a small market team to overspend on a bullpen when the farm system is so stacked.

The Indians will be fine in 2018 and will once again make the postseason. It is up to the most pessimistic fans of the bunch to realize that before they go crazy.

That’s insane.

A low salary to anger the masses

It’s low but perhaps it is his true value.

Time for the weekend

This hot stove season has been rather cold based on recent standards, so let’s hope that remains true as us in Cleveland burrow away for what is supposed to be a snow-filled weekend.
