Former Cleveland Indians shortstop Omar Vizquel is on the 2018 Hall of Fame ballot, and fans have mixed feelings on whether he deserves to be chosen.

While January remains a slow month, Cleveland Indians fans will likely get some exciting news on January 24 when the 2018 Baseball Hall of Fame voting results are revealed.

Jim Thome is expected to make it in, but Omar Vizquel‘s chances are less certain.

Vizquel should easily get enough to remain on the ballot, but early results make it seem like he isn’t headed for induction in 2018.

The shortstop has some impressive statistics, but his worthiness of being considered among the best in baseball history is a point of discussion for Indians fans.

I decided to post a poll on the topic, and the results are interesting.

Twitter polling is not a scientific system, but it is fascinating to see so many people think that Vizquel deserves to be in this year.

Considering our Twitter account is followed by mostly Indians fans, this viewpoint makes sense. Most fans remember Vizquel’s greatness and his 11 Gold Gloves and don’t see why anyone thinks he isn’t a sure thing on every voter’s ballot.

I’d argue that fans are more split on the matter than this poll shows, and that doesn’t mean that those against his induction in 2018 think he never deserves to make it in. But then again, does his resume improve at all as time goes on?

We will know in three weeks, but I don’t think Vizquel makes it in this year. Instead, it will be a year to celebrate the great Jim Thome.
