Cleveland Indians fans are sad to see Carlos Santana go, but he handled his exit in a professional manner as he begins his tenure in Philadelphia.

It is hard to find a bad thing to say about Carlos Santana‘s time in Cleveland.

Internet trolls may claim he wasn’t a valuable player, but that is simply false. And while he was never an All-Star, he was a reliable and important part of the team since debuting in 2010.

That made his decision to sign with the Philadelphia Phillies rather upsetting, although the contract he received was something the Indians were not in a position to match.

Santana is no longer a member of the Indians, but that doesn’t mean he has forgotten about the fans. He made sure to say thank you by writing a letter to fans before being introduced as a member of the Phillies.

The letter is short, but it gets to the point. We don’t need Santana going on and on about all the great times he had, and unfortunately there is no World Series season to talk about. However, this was a nice gesture by Santana.

Writing a letter to fans is not something new, but some players may leave and just treat it as part of the business. The fact Santana took the time to thank fans shows he truly did care, which is what fans should want.

The fans cheered for Santana and he noticed. The same can’t be said for Bryan Shaw. Do you think he will write a letter?

The Indians will continue to see players leave town for big contracts until a salary cap is introduced, or a billionaire buys the team and decides to splurge.

Indians fans are used to big names leaving by now, so the fact Santana took a few minutes to address his departure builds some goodwill. Maybe one day he will be back in an Indians uniform, finishing his career in the place it began.

Jim Thome went to the Phillies and found his way back home, albeit it for a short period of time, so fans should keep those No. 41 jerseys. Hopefully he can come back to a team sporting some new championship banners in Progressive Field.
