Cleveland Indians fans may no longer be able to complain about Bryan Shaw as he could be headed to another team sooner than later.

Some Cleveland Indians may not be sad to see Bryan Shaw go, but those folks may not know what they had until he’s gone.

Shaw is one of the best available free agent pitchers in this year’s market, and he could be on the move soon.

According to Paul Hoynes of cleveland.com:

One of these teams is reportedly the New York Mets, which makes sense considering Mickey Callaway is the manager there now.

It is still early in the offseason, but one part of Hoynes’ article points to Shaw potentially being off the market soon:

"In negotiations to date, Shaw has let it be known to interested teams that he is not interested in waiting for reliever A, B or C to sign before he signs. He has made it clear that if the deal is right, he’ll sign whether the market for relievers has been set or not."

While some players may want the market to develop, Shaw knows his value could potentially drop if he waits too long. Also, signing early allows him to essentially pick his team before spots begin to fill up, avoiding a situation in which he may be left with an option he doesn’t desire.

This news doesn’t mean Shaw is necessarily gone for sure, but it would be tough to see the Indians committing a lot of money to Shaw when trying to pursue Carlos Santana and potentially even Jay Bruce.

Spotrac has Shaw’s market value at three years, $21.4 million, which is just too much when considering the money committed to the bullpen in 2018. Add in Tyler Olson‘s breakout season and the depth in the organization and overpaying for Shaw doesn’t make sense, unfortunately.

Next: Debate of Bruce vs. Santana

Shaw to the Mets makes the most sense, as Callaway has that familiarity and is looking to utilize his bullpen more in 2018. There is no better option for a lot of bullpen work than Shaw, who pitchers in nearly every other game.
