The Cleveland Indians extended their winning streak to 12 games on Monday, on the anniversary of a special winning streak in MLB history.

The Cleveland Indians cannot be stopped, especially not by the lowly Chicago White Sox.

The Indians have now won 12 straight games and have opened up a 10-game lead over the Minnesota Twins in the American League Central.

Increasing the win streak on September 4 isn’t special when it comes to Indians history, but it does draw parallels to another amazing streak.

September 4, 2002 was the day Scott Hatteberg and the Oakland Athletics extended their famous win streak to 20 games.

Or for younger fans, the day Chris Pratt became a baseball legend and calmed Brad Pitt’s nerves for a minute.

Honestly, it is tough to watch either without getting goosebumps.

The 2002 Oakland A’s became legends thanks to Moneyball, but ultimately fell short of the goal of winning a World Series title.

Indians fans are obviously hoping for a different result, and the fact the team nearly won it all a year ago helps build the confidence that a title can be won this year.

The 20-game streak by the 2002 A’s is so memorable because it was capped off by that Hatteberg home run, but the Indians have been going about their streak in a much more dominant fashion.

There have been countless blowouts and the team has done well enough to let Francisco Mejia and Greg Allen get some meaningful playing time. It is not a common sight to see young prospects get starts during a pennant race, but the entire team has been so great they slot in just like any other player.

Perhaps the Hatteberg moment is yet to come, or maybe the team will just continue defeating their opponents in dominant fashion. Either way, the 2017 Cleveland Indians are peaking at the right time.

Next: The healthy core needed for a title in 2017

It may not lead to the team being the focus of a great book and film, but as long as the team wins it all, fans will have plenty to remember.
