Cleveland Indians fans are hoping for the best with Michael Brantley, who fell to the ground Tuesday night with what was deemed an ankle sprain.

The Cleveland Indians ended Tuesday night’s game with plenty of smiles, but one player was noticeably absent from all the celebrating.

Michael Brantley left the game in the fifth inning after he fell to the ground following a fly ball hit to Bradley Zimmer. Brantley barely began to move before he pulled up and eventually took a seat awaiting the training staff.

Going right to the ground sometimes indicates major damage, but one major injury is ruled out, according to Jordan Bastian.

For now, the team is calling it a sprained ankle which is infinitely better than a ruptured Achilles.

Without knowledge of the full extent of the injury, or Brantley’s pain levels, fans are left waiting for further news.

If it turns out to be something that will keep him out a week or two, there is no need for any major changes. The Indians could call up Daniel Robertson or even Tyler Naquin to provide some outfield depth, and can have both Bradley Zimmer and Austin Jackson on the field every day to keep both bats in the lineup until Lonnie Chisenhall returns.

However, an injury for an extended period of time would be a major blow considering Brantley is one of the best hitters on what has been an inconsistent offensive team.

Brantley ranks second in batting average (.299) among qualified hitters on the team, and is third in on-base percentage (.358). His 52 RBI rank fourth on the team even though he has only played in 88 games this season.

Losing him now would be devastating not only for the team, but for Brantley as an individual. He had to sit out last season and watch his team make it all the way to Game 7 of the World Series, so it would be heartbreaking to see him relegated to the bench once again in 2017.

Next: August a daunting month for the Indians

But there is no need to panic until a clear diagnosis is laid out by the medical staff. So for now, let’s all just enjoy the great vibes after the walk-off win.
