The Cleveland Indians have brought in Grady Sizemore to serve in a front office role, showing how the organization cares about helping former players.

The Cleveland Indians have frequently brought in former players to assist the team in spring training. Most MLB teams do it, and it is always nice to see those who gave us fans so much to cheer about be able to continue to help the team.

This trend continues in 2017 as the Indians have brought Grady Sizemore to camp to assist in the player development department. The role will continue throughout the season.

As stated already, this type of move is not something unique to the Indians’ organization. However, Sizemore’s situation is a bit different.

After being a star from 2005-2008, his 2009-2011 seasons were filled with countless injuries. He was never able to stay healthy and return to his former self, ultimately falling out of baseball until a short-lived comeback in the 2014-2015 seasons.

Sizemore, who is only 34 years old, now has a chance to share his knowledge with the current players while also learning how the front office works. And even though he only has experience on the field, the organization is giving him a chance to share his knowledge off the field as well.

Bringing Sizemore back into this role shows how the organization is committed to its former players. The team could have easily offered him a guest instructor role in spring training and had that be the extent of his presence, but instead he is being given a chance to become a front office executive.

This move makes sense for both sides. Sizemore has a chance to return to the game and help both on and off the field, while the Indians are adding a former All-Star to help with the younger players. His knowledge of the game can only serve as a benefit, while someone with his natural talent should be able to help scout talent as well.

The Indians are a smart organization in that there is no shortage of help being brought in to ensure the team has countless experienced voices surrounding the current roster. And while Sizemore’s tenure with the team ended in a forgettable fashion, he now has a chance to help the organization as it pursues a World Series championship.
