Taking a look at the news surrounding the Cleveland Indians and the rest of the MLB.

The Cleveland Indians had a game to forget last night, losing 9-1 to the Oakland Athletics. The good news is the Indians still hold a 6.5 lead over the Detroit Tigers with 38 games to play.

The story from last night’s game is the play of Danny Salazar. After only completing a single inning of work his last time out, Salazar only lasted four innings in the 9-1 loss, giving up six runs and only striking out two batters.

He does not appear to be injured and his velocity looks fine, but his pitch command is just not there yet. It may be too late to send him down for a minor league start, so it is important he figures out what is wrong before his next start. The Indians cannot afford to have Salazar struggling, especially given the recent performances by fellow starter Josh Tomlin.

The Indians still have a chance to win the series today, so before first pitch let’s take a look at the news surrounding the Indians and the rest of the MLB in today’s edition of A.M. Wahoo’s.

Cleveland Indians news:

Cleveland Indians: Andrew Miller and a Bullpen With Options

"The Cleveland Indians looked to be in the midst of a homestand hangover last night against the Oakland Athletics. The Indians ultimately won the game 1-0, but it took a while for the offense to come alive. In contrast, the pitching was great."

Cleveland Indians: Analyzing Carlos Carrasco’s Strange August

"The season that Carlos Carrasco has been having in 2016 for the Cleveland Indians is one that can be defined by two months: the month of May that he spent on the disabled list recovering from a hamstring injury, and the month of August where has struggled to the tune of an earned run average over five."

Three Takeaways from the Indians’ 1-0 win Over Oakland

"The Cleveland Indians relied on dominant pitching and got one big clutch hit en route to a 1-0 victory over the Oakland Athletics on Monday night. Carlos Carrasco looked like an ace on the mound, as he threw eight sharp innings for the victory, and Carlos Santana broke a scoreless tie in the eighth inning when he sent a 1-1 pitch from A’s reliever Ryan Dull into the seats for his 27th home run of the year."

Why Cleveland Indians Attendance Actually Matters (Factory of Sadness)

"The Indians attendance matters. There’s always going to be those that say the fans don’t affect the game, only the players on the field. There is a lot of truth to that. No one sitting in the bleachers fields a ground ball. No one in The District take a single swing during a game."

Inside Story of How Jose Ramirez Was Discovered (cleveland.com)

"John Mirabelli sent me a photo of a baseball field in the Dominican Republic. The grass is haunted with weeds. The dirt is sandy with rocks. There is a donkey grazing near second base. “This is not the exact field where we found Jose (Ramirez), but it looks just like it,” said Mirabelli, the Indians senior director of scouting operations."

MLB Postseason Schedule Announced (MLB.com)
