A battle of first place teams gets underway on Friday night, as the Cleveland Indians host the Toronto Blue Jays for a three-game series.

The waning days of August are upon us. This means that the leaves are beginning to turn, apple cider is making its way onto store shelves again, school is about to resume, and the Cleveland Indians are in first place. The Indians currently stand at 69-50, which is good for a six game margin between them and the second place Detroit Tigers. The last time Cleveland was in first place this late in the season was in 2007, when Sean Kingston had the number one song in the nation and there was only one iPhone.

The Indians are in the midst of an 11-game homestand that has been fruitful thus far, as the Tribe has gone 6-2 since returning to Progressive Field. The team will be looking to build on that momentum when they welcome the AL East-leading Toronto Blue Jays for three games before heading to the west coast. The Blue Jays are one of the hotter teams in baseball, as they have gone 26-14 since the start of July, and currently lead the Baltimore Orioles and Boston Red Sox in East by 1.5 games.

Let’s take a look at what to expect in what could be a preview of baseball to come in October.
